Report: PS3 has oldest gamers, Wii has youngest

According to a console usage report, the PS3 has the oldest gamerbase, while the Xbox 360 attracts a slightly younger base. The Wii on the other hand, has some curious tastes, attracting young boys and old women. You just can’t avoid the dirty jokes with this console.

According to a console usage report from Nielsen Media Research, the PS3 has the oldest gamerbase, with the highest usage from the 18-24 age group. Nielsen suspects that this is because:

Gamers who owned one or both of these consoles in their youth may have ‘graduated’ to the PS3 in their assumed adulthood.

The Xbox 360 attracts a slightly younger base, with more male gamers falling in the 12-17 age group. Which probably explains why their the most rabid fanbase a lot of times. There are more female Xbox gamers who fall in the 25-34 age group though.

The Wii on the other hand, has some curious tastes, attracting young boys and old women. You just can’t avoid the dirty jokes with this console. The Wii is popular in boys age 6-11, and women age 25-34.

The Wii is the least used console on average. Xbox 360 male gamers play nearly twice as many days per month than females. Gender usage on the PS3 and Wii are more balanced. Although we knew all of this by instinct before, at least we now have some solid data on it.
