Red 5 Studios License Offset Engine for Next Gen MMO

In a press release dated February 13th 2006, newly formed California based Red 5 Studios (founded by a number of former Blizzard developers and executives behind World Of Warcraft), have announced to the world that their next – generation MMO will be powered by the astounding technology developed by Offset Software. If you’re unfamiliar with the Offset engine, have a gander, it’s a real sight to behold. Here are some highlights from the press release:

“The Offset Engine bridges the gap in quality between real-time and pre-rendered graphics. Using revolutionary technology which combines effects elements with unified lighting, shading, and shadowing, the Offset Engine is quickly becoming a top choice among developers of next gen games.


Every aspect of the Offset Engine is designed around the goal of reducing development time and cost, while empowering designers and artists with the tools they need to create spectacular visual effects and immersive environments.”

Red 5 Studio’s official homepage also has this to say about the core team behind the new MMO:

“Kern, Petras and Yun are all former Blizzard veterans. Mark Kern was Team Lead for World of Warcraft, and William Petras was Art Director on the project. Taewon Yun helped found Blizzard Korea where he was responsible of World of Warcraft’s launch and operations in Asia. Together they have over 30 years of experience developing and launching hit games such as Warcraft, Starcraft and Diablo.”

Talk about pedigree! Details on the game itself are sparse at the moment, but it’s likely we’ll hear more in the coming weeks.
