The digital distribution platform is heading to GameFly’s client, although some of its games may be left behind.
Earlier this year, GameFly made a very smart decision by acquiring Direct2Drive and announcing their intention to launch into the digital distribution market. With retail sales falling and on-disc games becoming less viable (though still strong), it was a good move by a company that depends on hard copies of software to make its money.
Now, a few months after the announcement, we’re getting details on how exactly Direct2Drive will be implemented into the current GameFly system. Here’s what we know so far:
Direct2Drive will merge with the current GameFly client
Direct2Drive customers will have GameFly accounts created for them
Direct2Drive customers with existing GameFly accounts will have the two accounts merged
Customers are advised to download all previous purchases now, as there’s no guarantee the games will be available through GameFly
If you’re a current Direct2Drive user and you want more details on how the transition will go down, you should check out the official FAQ. It’s worth noting that current GameFly customers won’t see much of a change, and merged Direct2Drive customers won’t be give a subscription to the regular GameFly service unless they decide to pay for one.
What do you think of GameFly’s plan to merge the two services?

Japanese magazine Weekly Shounen Jump dishes out new information on Dragon Quest X in their latest issue.
According to the magazine, there will be five races to choose from, apart from the humans, when you play this game: Ogre, Elf, Dwarf, Pukuripo and Wedi. You're basically going to be free to decide which race you'll be playing as in the game, but what's set is that the human race will remain central to the story. Apparently, one specific mission will be focused on the human world, with Jump asking, "Has something happened in the world of humans?".
That should be for us to figure out once we set out into the world of Astoldia. In this world are four split continents, and one island chain: Ogleed, Eltona, Dwachakka, Pukuland, and Wena Islands. Each of these geographical locations of course pertain to the abode of each of the aforementioned races.
Square Enix is hauling in quite an impressive lineup of goods at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show, so we might be able to pick up something more from their presentation then.
The publisher has yet to describe Dragon Quest X as an MMORPG title, although so far, the clues about the game does point to that inclination. Just last week, the game's FAQ confirmed that there will be a subscription fee attached to playing the game online.

It wasn't certain yesterday if Dragon Quest X will be having subscription fees considering that it's going to be an online game. Today, that news has been confirmed, thanks to the game's FAQ.
According to the Q&A page of the publisher, there will in fact be separate payments required for gamers to enjoy the game online. As to the specific details of this subscription system, Square Enix has yet to divulge.
Dragon Quest X was confirmed only recently for both the Wii and Wii U. Yuuji Horii also teased character transfer capabilities in the 3DS version. We'll be keeping you posted on more details as they come. We here there'll be some magazine features coming up for it.

Someone's not all too happy about the announcement of Call of Duty: Elite, and he's got no qualms telling the world that he thinks Activision is a bunch of jerks for coming up with it.
This someone is no other than Zombie Studios' lead designer, Jared Gerritzen. "I don't agree with it," he bluntly told Gamasutra in an interview. "Right now, if they could, they'd charge 60 bucks, then 20 bucks a month for a map pack - or even just one map - and then US$ 9 to upload game movies to YouTube."
"They see this massive fan base, and why aren't they spending that money and evolving the game even more?" In his opinion, while the franchise in itself is "amazing," the sad fact of the matter is that Activision has not really pushed the envelope insofar as the last four titles are concerned. That's subtle for saying that CoD is just a one-title-hit-franchise, if you think about it.
"That's the sad part. Think about if they tried to spend that money that they're trying to milk from the fans. It's sad. It's really weird. But there's always going to be that guy; there's always going to be the jerk."

It's been a long week for Sony, what with the worldwide PSN outage branching out to a million dozen forms of other problems. To add to all of that, the company is under fire yet again, this time for failing to disclose about the serious ramifications of the hack to their consumers the world over.
As expected, Sony is now scrambling to get their story straight, explaining via their PlayStation Blog the reason for the delay. According to them, it was not to keep all of us in the dark, but really, it was because they had to wait for the results of the forensic analysis first before announcing anything official.
"We wanted to take this opportunity to clarify a point and answer one of the most frequently asked questions today.
There's a difference in timing between when we identified there was an intrusion and when we learned of consumers' data being compromised.
We learned there was an intrusion 19th April and subsequently shut the services down. We then brought in outside experts to help us learn how the intrusion occurred and to conduct an investigation to determine the nature and scope of the incident.
It was necessary to conduct several days of forensic analysis, and it took our experts until yesterday to understand the scope of the breach. We then shared that information with our consumers and announced it publicly yesterday evening.
For those who were looking there's also an FAQ with some more on frequently asked quesitons. Thank you for your continued patience and support."

PC fans surely had their hopes up when they saw that Street Fighter X Tekken was listed for the PC too. Unfortunately, it was just all a misunderstanding. More specifically, a typographical error.
The typo came up on the game's official forum, where Capcom's Community Manager listed the game for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. He's now retracted thath statement, apologizing for the confusion that he might have caused, hopes he might have shattered.
"I can't say that it's happening and I won't say that it isn't happening... apologies for the confusion. It was listed on the FAQ sheet when it shouldn't have been there. I realize that's raising more questions than its answering but stay tuned."
You know what's worse than having your hopes snatched right from under your very nose? Having hope teased and dangled in your face without any certainty whether you'll ever get that sweet bite off it.
Come on, Capcom. Was it just a premature announcement, or was that really just an error that shouldn't have been made in the first place?
