Scans ahoy: more on Final Fantasy XIII’s Vanilla and in-game battle system

Final Fantasy XIIIThis week’s issue of V-Jump also has their very own coverage on Final Fantasy XIII (PS3, Xbox 360). Just like what we saw earlier this week on Famitsu, it’s got Pigtailed Girl’s real name (next to Snow Villiers, she’s the second FF13 character to have her full name spelled out: Oerba Dia Vanille) and some screens of the battle system. While some of the screens look recycled from other scans and trailers, one of the scans shows a bit more of the in-game battles. I’d say “FF12ADB-redux,” but of course, it’s more than that. Supposedly.

While some of the screens look recycled from other scans and trailers, one of the scans shows a bit more of the in-game battles. It looks like FF13 is following the same route as FF12, with its Active Time/Dimension Battle action gameplay.

Enemies are visible on the map, and there won’t be “random” encounters: from the looks of things, it still depends on whether you or the enemy will engage in battle.

That’s not the only thing they’re borrowing from FF12 though. As seen in other scans before, note the white-armored baddie in one of the screens. It still looks very much like a Judge straight out of FF12.
