Wii mod: Internal WaveBird reciever

WaveBird - Image 1If you’re one of the tech fans who thinks that the sight of a WaveBird receiver slapped onto your Wii’s Gamecube port ruins the console’s streamlined image, read on. Foobar2k has just come up with a step-by-step guide to modding your Wii with an internally mounted WaveBird receiver.

As for what you need for this attempt (aside from the WaveBird kit):

  • Triwing Screwdriver
  • Phillips Screwdriver
  • Some good thin wire
  • Soldering Iron
  • Solder
  • Wire Cutters
  • Electrical Tape or similar

Now, before you get started, be warned that this mod involves opening up your Wii, hence exposing its delicate insides. On that note, Foobar2k mentioned that his unit’s ribbon connector for the drive data cable got damaged shortly after this mod, which hints at the surgery-like precision the process needs – hope you’ve been practicing Trauma Center.
