The Star Wars and Battlefield: Hardline studio just got scaled down.
If you’re a fan of Battlefield, you’re probably aware that this year’s Battlefield: Hardline wasn’t developed by DICE. Instead, it was built by another EA-owned studio, Visceral Games (the Dead Space guys). Visceral is also hard at work on an unnamed Star Wars project, because EA wants a million Star Wars games to release during its 10-year exclusive license.
Unfortunately, it seems as though everything isn’t perfect in Visceral land. EA has confirmed that the studio has suffered a small round of layoffs:
“We made a small staffing change in our Visceral studio today to support the needs of the studio's two current development priorities: content for Battlefield Hardline Premium and an unannounced Star Wars project. We are working to ensure the smoothest transition possible for the impacted employees.”
Tough news, but sort of expected given that by most counts Hardline wasn’t a smashing success.
