Are you ready for QuakeCon 2010? It’s just literally just around the corner, opening its gates on August 12th. If you’re ready, then be sure to get your full game on cos the event organizers aren’t scrimping up on prizes, putting as much as US$ 50,000 on the line.

So here’s what’s going to happen. When the event transpires (from August 12 to 15), guests will be treated to multiple tournaments, classified as “professionals” and “up-and-comers”. Apart from that, there will also be free-to-play Quake Live.

Now, Quake Live is what you should be cracking your knuckles for, because the Quake Live Master Championship will be gathering “top professionals” for a 64-player face-off in a double elimination bracket. If you come out on top of the heap, you will walk away with a cool US$ 14,000.

Meanwhile, there’s also the “Capture the Flag” championship, which puts 32 teams of four in a definitely tough single elimination bracket. “Players who come out on top will share prizes of US$ 25,000, including US$ 14,000 for the team of champions,” declared the press release.

If you belong to the “up-and-coming” class, no need to worry as you’ll also get a chance to get your hands on US$ 1,500 upon winning the 128-person open tournament.

That’s a whole lot of cash flowing from QuakeCon 2010. If you want to try your hand at it, then you better get pre-registered for the tournaments between July 27 and August 8, or at the event itself from 9AM to 12PM CT on August 12. Pre-registration online can be done through the official QuakeCon website, which we’ve linked via the source below.

Good luck, and more importantly, enjoy!
