It sure came as a big, pleasant surprise for Xbox Live users. Epic Games has just announced that the Gears of War 3 beta will now be open for access by all Xbox Live Gold members.
The beta will be giving the Goldies access to three new multiplayer game modes, as well as four maps. So far, we can confirm two of the maps that will be open for beta play: Stadium and Supermarket. As for the other two, you fans get to have a say what they will be.
All you have to do is make your choice via the Gears of War 3 Facebook contest, and make your pick from among the following: Mercy, Old Town, Overpass and Trenches. The two maps that receive the highest number of votes will be the ones to complete the four maps open in the beta.
Fans must surely be taken aback by this new move by Epic Games, considering that they claimed just early this month that the beta can only be accessible through the Epic Edition of Bulletstorm. It shouldn't too much of an issue too because they've got quite the double-deal with Bullestorm and the Gears of War 3 beta, anyway.
Here are the rest of the important nuggets of information you must know about the Gears of War 3 game, coming out on September 20, 2011:
New Multiplayer Modes
New Multiplayer Modes
King of the Hill – Combines with Annex and simplified with a new user interface and ring that moves around the map.
Capture the Leader – Capture and hold either Chairman Prescott or Queen Myrrah. The leaders aren’t useless though as they can see through walls and coordinate their teammates. Also, everyone gets one smoke grenade that can be used to force the player holding the leader to let go.
Team Deathmatch – Each team gets 15 respawns. Once those are gone, it is game over for the team that gets killed first.
Unlockables
“Cole’s Thrashball outfit can be unlocked once you play 70 matches of any game type. You get to keep him in the retail version if get 83 matches total.”
Dedicated Servers – Epic has also stated that the game’s multiplayer will have its own dedicated servers, unlike Gears 1 & 2. This ensures a much improved online experience over the first two games.
Release Date – Finally, Gears of War 3 will be released on September 20th.

Besides, the Epic Edition is still the safer way to make sure you get in the beta.

Just a few days back, Epic Games teased the gaming world with a "Big" announcement for the game, and everyone thought it was going to be about the multiplayer mode. As it turns out, it was an even bigger news item than the multiplayer.

Gears of War 3 is now officially announced for a September 20th release, instead of the originally-intended April release. What you will be getting in April, sometime in the middle of the month, is the beta for the Xbox Live.

As mentioned earlier, though, getting Bulletstorm's Epic Edition is still the best way to ensure you will get in the beta. The Xbox Live Gold offer is only good for a limited number of slots, after all.

Here are the new multiplayer modes confirmed thus far:

  • King of the Hill – Combines with Annex and simplified with a new user interface and ring that moves around the map.
  • Capture the Leader – Capture and hold either Chairman Prescott or Queen Myrrah. The leaders aren’t useless though as they can see through walls and coordinate their teammates. Also, everyone gets one smoke grenade that can be used to force the player holding the leader to let go.

So gear up, and good luck! Enjoy the official boxart released for it.
