Five Nights at Freddy’s Film Adaptation
Gil Kenan, director of the remake film Poltergeist (2015), had discussed and made a deal with Warner Bros to direct a live-action film adaptation of one of the most popular survival horror games, Five Nights at Freddy’s. Developed by Scott Cawthon, Five Nights at Freddy’s surrounds a pizza restaurant by the name of “Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza” in which the player is to take on the role of a security guard during the night. Whilst watching the security cameras for suspicious movements, the player must track down antagonistic animatronic animals which will eventually enter the security room and kill the player if they are not careful. Tyler Burton Smith, writer of Sleeping Dogs, will write the script for this film adaptation of Five Nights at Freddy’s together with Kenan.
In addition, the new Five Nights at Freddy’s 4 game, which is the last chapter of the original story, was released to Steam on July 23, about 2 weeks prior to the originally planned release date. Unlike the other games in the series, the player no longer takes on the role of a security guard. Rather, the player is in control of a child for the protagonist, with the setting being the child’s bedroom. The purpose of Five Nights at Freddy’s 4 is similar to the previous games in which the player is to protect themselves from monster versions of the animatronic animals. Moreover, there are no security cameras present in the game, so the player is heavily reliant on the background noises to determine if the monsters are in their way to the bedroom. This makes the new Five Nights at Freddy’s game much more difficult that the previous ones. The game is available on Steam for US$7.99 and has been released on Android devices as well. The iOS version is expected to hit the Appstore sometime this week.
