I?m not sure how many of you out there are old enough to remember the strange and innovative ?Depeche Mode? music in the 80?s, but for those of you who do, you might like to know they went to UMD in November:

Depeche Mode release three Playstation PSP UMD titles on 14th November 2005 – One Night In Paris, Devotional & 101.

One Night In Paris and Devotional are both concert films, directed by long time collaborator Anton Corbijn. One Night In Paris was filmed using 13 cameras to achieve the ultimate illustration of the band’s striking performance at the Palais Omnisport, Paris Bercy in front of 16,000 fans as part of the 2001 Exciter Tour.

Devotional was recorded on the band’s 1993 sold out world tour and on its original release was nominated for a Grammy award (Best Long Form Music Video).

101 is the documentary film from around the time of Music For the Masses world tour (1998) when the band exploded into the musical mainstream. Their Rose Bowl concert was the 101st and last date of the tour and for 101 the acclaimed film-maker DA Pennebaker (director of the seminal Dylan film ‘Don’t Look Back’) documents Depeche Mode and their audience.

Depeche Mode have recently marked their 25th anniversary with the release of the critically acclaimed Top 10 album Playing The Angel and embark on a world tour in March / April 2006 including a date as the first act to play in the refurbished Wembley Arena in London.

The UMD format was developed for use with the brand new Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) gaming system, recently released in the UK. The UMD discs are 2.3 inch optical discs which hold DVD quality video and audio.

A UMD release of Depeche Mode’s latest album, Playing The Angel with extras including a photogallery and the video for the hit single Precious will be released in the near future.
