Say Goodbye to the Xbox 360 |

Here’s some more legal news for the week: Judge David Shaw, who’s currently overseeing a patent infringement lawsuit thrown at Microsoft by Motorola, has just recommended that the International Trade Commission ban the import of Xbox 360 consoles to the United States. The lawsuit has something to do with an argument over who invented wireless controllers (basically).

The ban would only apply to the 4GB and 250GB versions of the Xbox 360. Shaw has also advised the commission to issue a cease-and-desist order that bars the sale of units already in the States, and recommended that Microsoft pay a bond equal to 7% of the value of all unsold U.S. Xbox 360 inventory.
Microsoft tried to counter Shaw’s recommendations by noting that banning the 360 is bad for consumers, who would be left to choose between the PS3 and Nintendo Wii. Shaw, to his credit, drop-kicked that argument by claiming that enforcing intellectual property rights is more important than giving gamers a choice between what console to buy. Sony execs were probably rolling in the aisles.
None of this is final, of course. If Shaw’s decision does become final (which will take weeks), the whole issue will land on (seriously) Barack Obama’s desk—Obama will have 60 days to review the case. Assuming Microsoft doesn’t settle for some enormous, undisclosed sum.
So….bad news for Microsoft either way?

Have you heard of that Sun vs Google case? The judge presiding over the case is a programmer, and basically called Sun out on being drama queens over an incredibly obvious 9 lines of code. We need to have programmers and engineers or something start approving software and technology patents, instead of people who know nothing about technology and approving every obvious little thing that comes their way.

I assume they would be going after Sony and Nintendo if it was just wireless controller technology in general.

No one can own the right to wireless technology only the method used to achieve it.

Youtube, Digg, Engadget, most sites I know used to use such a system. Pretty much everyone has abandoned it in favor of purely a "like" system because of how worthlessly abused a thumbs up/down system can be and how it basically starts flamewars. You can't have a discussion with such a system because everyone is attacking those they don't like instead of contributing to the discussion.

Your first post is nothing but an emoticon yet you talk about having a "discussion". What kind of discussion it that anyway? A fucking retarded one. Either way you clearly believe you "contributed to the discussion" by posting a smiley. Gee, good for you. Moron.

Hint: They all have the exact same writing style, and all of them at the same time rate down anyone who disagrees with you while rating your own comments up, hmm, thats not suspicious at ALL.
You aren't fooling everyone.

You have to wait for a copyright infringer to become so substantial that they become worth suing. In regards to said product.
Also, it simply take a long time to build a case.
But as with anything along these lines, this seems utterly ridiculous.

Currently I have a PS3 and getting a new Xbox 360 soon, but I've found that all consoles nowadays had Wireless controllers. What I am getting at here is what's the point of this, I just don't understand why Microsoft is being targetted here.
First it was that thing about Assassin's Creed being a ripoff of a Book, now this.
The world is going down hill, and there are people making a profit out of it. Sucks to be human after all.
