Call of Duty Elite is Live |

We’re still roughly 10 hours from the official launch of Modern Warfare 3, not counting leaked copies or insane truck heists. For most of the gaming populace, midnight tonight marks the first opportunity to pick up what is probably going to be the biggest game of the year (in terms of sales, anyway). Activision knows you’re in a frenzy though, so they’ve pushed the Call of Duty Elite service live Xbox 360 – you can download it right now! If you’re a PC player, you’ll have to wait, since Elite is apparently broken on that platform. As for PS3 - I'm not sure if it's up yet or not. Let me know!

If you’re unfamiliar with Call of Duty Elite, here’s how it works: You pay Activision $60 for your copy of Modern Warfare 3. Then (or now), you pay them another $49.99 for the privilege of using the premium Elite service. While Elite is available for free, only paid members receive all DLC packs, clan leveling and video uploads. It’s probably a good deal if you’re planning to buy DLC; they’ll be priced around $15 each and there will be at least three.
Beyond the DLC price, the premium version doesn’t seem to offer much more than the free one – managing your stats is probably the most valuable asset and you can do that with the regular version.
You’ll find a full comparison of the two Elite programs here: Call of Duty Elite
So what do you think of Call of Duty Elite? Cash grab or valuable service? I love Battelog (for BF3), but would not have paid to use it. Nor for Halo: Reach stats or any other “extra.” Still, some people will probably love it, and the DLC is a nice perk.
