Microsoft Enters war of words with UK newspaper |
Listed in: News, Xbox Live Tags: microsoft vs the sun, xbox live phishing, xbox live points stolen
After the story broke earlier this week about Xbox Live phishing scams, and Microsoft confirmed that the Live service was not the subject of any security breach, the Sun Newspaper has today decided to rock the boat some more.
The Sun reported today that they had been contacted by more than a dozen unhappy readers who told them about compromises to their Xbox Live accounts, with unauthorised purchase of points that were then traded on to users in China and Russia.

No personal details were passed on according to the Sun reports, just the unauthorised purchase of points.
It seems the Sun article again makes mention of how Microsoft has failed to reimburse customers that were victims of this fishing scam.
Microsoft has now responded to the latest story, in much the same fashion as they did earlier this week, saying that 'the Xbox Live service has not been hacked".
They are still investigating a number of recent customer complaints in relation to the unauthorised purchase of points and the lack of reimbursement and are "taking several steps to address and resolve the issues."
We would again like to ask the question of you, should Microsoft be reimbursing users who have been subject to these phishing scams?
Let us know in the comments.

It's the user's own damn fault so no.
Now if Microsoft file lawsuit against the phishers and gain a large lump sum of money from it then some of that cash should go to the phishees.
Other than that it isn't Microsoft's fault that some of its user base are blind idiots.

You know if they can track down the accounts w/ the illegally purchased points, they can simply delete the accounts, and restore the funds.
I say yeah they should reimburse customers, because not everyone is an idiot who gets phished. It's as simple as registering to a site that gets hacked or an msn that is hacked, they look down the list see the ppl playing xbox, copy the email and send them a fake offer.
I mean if u send ur password and account over email yeah it was ur vault. but not if you have a clean inbox and they somehow found you. It takes just one email thats looks real and has a masked hyperlink to a fake login.
Come on not everyone has played wow.
Just shut up.

point is people need to LEARN, if they are big enough to have a card linked to their xbox they should be big enough to learn about security, yeah granted as no physical goods where purchased maybe they "could" reimburse users but then how would they learn to be more careful.
personally the accounts that used the stolen points should be banned and any consoles that the stolen accounts where used on should be banned, that would hurt the hackers and maybe the money donated to an internet safety awerness charity or someting
