The girls over at Gamespot reviewed Quake IV for the Xbox 360 where the verdict was the hardware was unable to supply a steady frame rate for the usually smooth running PC game:
The Quake series of sci-fi first-person shooters has always had a fairly sketchy history on console platforms. It has often represented the pinnacle of PC graphical capabilities, but translating those high-end graphics to affordable, mass-market consoles has usually proved to be a tough process. That trend continues with Quake 4 for the Xbox 360. Despite the 360's stature as the most powerful console on the market, it just can't keep up with this game's demanding visuals (which probably speaks more to the lackluster quality of the game's translation from the PC than to the system's power, judging by how well the 360's two other first-person shooters look by comparison). Quake 4 is a compelling game, but when saddled with an extremely unstable frame rate, it's tough to recommend.Overall score was 6.6/10.

There goes my buy for the xbox360, I wanted to get one to play games like quake 4 on it and not have to pay 2000$ to get a new computer. Lets see if the ps3 can handle it.

IGN gave it a fair review..
It's not that the 360 couldnt handle it I mean it's the doom 3 engine, they just didnt port it that well..

I think it's not because of the consoles. It's just because Id Software isn't able to port their games right. Just look at Far Cry for the old XBox. It looks awesome!

Yeah, bad port that's all - but a kick in the balls nonetheless!

lazy programers, what a shame trying to make a fast buck

Its not because the system could handle it.
Actualy IGN reviewed it much much better (yet **** up the RR6 review). The first half of the game runs great and the 2nd half has framerate issues.
Its pretty freaking obvious this is due to it being a launch title and them not having enough time to make the port solid.

ARG, Could = couldn't

also, you must remember that the devs were rushing like crazy fools just to get SOMETHING out for Billy-boy.

only one game at launch is using more the 1 of the the three cores, and its not quake4
SO all games at launch are only using like 45% of there power.

I love how if this happened on the ps3 all of you would be calling it a japanese piece of **** and inferior to the 360.
ps. I'm not a sony fanboy. I was one of the morons waiting in line overnight for the 360.

this is bull ****, i got 6 games for my 360 with quake 4 being one of them and after beating half the game i have not seen any framerate problems what so ever. also pdz, pgr2, and madden06 all look much better than quake4 does and none of those titles have any such problem either. dont believe this ****, there is always some new reason why a website or new site sais not to get something and 9/10 times its bs. if you dont believe me rent the game befor you buy it. its a great game, if you liked any of id softwares games you will love this one.

I love ID FPS's and have been anticipating this release for a while, but the framerate was truly unbearable (even in the first portion of the game), as much as I didn't want to believe it. It's even worse than most reviewers have claimed; I've played it on the 360. Not worth your time or money, although Quake 2 is a blast and runs perfectly.

i have quake 4 and have countered no frame rate issues...i have no idea what any of you guys are talking about...

maybe its bad luck, i have quake 4 for 360 and it runs fine

I have issues on my Quake 4 - Microsoft is shipping me a new 360 because of it. You can really see the framerate problem right on the intro for a new game on Quake 4. I wanted to say "intro video" But it's not a video at all.. Just a constant choppiness issue. Also noticable on NFS Demo
