According to a recent job posting on Linkedin, Youtube may be coming to the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii.

The job posting details several requirements, including the ability to code for the three major consoles of this generation. The ad also makes a mention of ads, so if this is indeed a Youtube "app" for consoles, there may be ads placed on the videos or throughout the app.

Job Description:

The engineering team at YouTube (a Google company) serves billions of page views a day with a small group of clever, motivated and talented people. YouTube comprises more than 20% of the world’s http traffic and is the second most visited site in the world. We work together in small teams to design, develop, and roll out key features and products in very short time frames. Which means - something you write today could be seen by millions of viewers tomorrow.

The role: Game Console Software Engineer, YouTube.

As part of our team you'll be working as a Software Engineer developing the next generation game console. You will have an opportunity to try novel and unconventional ideas and launch frequent experiments to the YouTube user base. You will have a chance to get immediate feedback on user interface, human interaction design, and interest. You will be working with a variety of languages during the development process.

Responsibilities:

  • Build the next generation game-console-based TV experience with You Tube video content.
  • Deliver a compelling lean back experience with monetization and e-commerce offerings (ie, pay-per-stream, ads).
  • Integrate and optimize with distribution channels and devices including all major game platforms.
  • Develop leading edge User Interfaces and delight users with innovative media rich solutions.

Requirements:

  • BS in Computer Science preferred (Master's a plus).
  • At least 3 years of professional video game programming experience.
  • Experience with engine development on at least one major platform.
  • Deep technical knowledge of Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony PlayStation 3 and/or Nintendo Wii.
  • Skills: C++, Java, Javascript, HTML, Python, ActionScript, Systems, UI Design and Implementation.
  • Credited on at least 1 published video game in a programmer role.

I just fucking hope PS3 will be able to stream YouTube in HD, cause it just does 240p.

YouTube HD on 360 and PS3, fuck yes!

The quality is surprisingly good but not really quite there to be HD.

It's due to the browsers being very outdated, it needs to be updated but if Sony doesn't, it'll never work properly.

been able to watch youtube on my Xbox was something I wanted a long time ago, before I got a new TV and started to use it as my standard computer display, now it doesn't matter at all,

Thanks but it was a bit to late,
(but I'm sure there are some other folks happy about this and will find it useful but not me)

TVersity seems to be able to stream YouTube to Xbox 360, but I haven't actually tried it because I use PS3 Media Server.

It also has the function, though.

Microsoft owns Skype but they will support it for all devices it's been used on.

The more money it comes, the better it's for them.

Well only the PSP has Skype and MS have already said they'll continue to support it for the PSP.

You used to be able to watch HD videos on the PS3 browser, but for some reason, when you use Youtube on the system, there is no option for HD, or HQ...
