Turns out there is a good reason to pay for Xbox Live: Free Xboxes! Players around the world are reporting that they’ve received, completely unsolicited, a brand new, special edition Xbox 360 in the mail, which is apparently a gift for keeping the Live service for over ten years.

Check it out:

Microsoft has confirmed that the consoles are part of a promotion celebrating Live’s ten-year anniversary, but it’s unclear as to what the exact rules are. In order to qualify, you effectively would have needed to sign up for Live on day one, and there just weren’t many people on the service back then. Also…what’s the monthly cost of Live times 120?

We’ll keep you updated as details emerge. In the meantime, congratulations to whoever gets one!

I signed up in 2010 so I guess I'm not getting anything. Maybe 20 MSP or a Gamer Picture / Avatar Item.

Spend $600 for nothing for 10 years(not counting rebuying 360s after they overheat); get $360.

Seems like a deal to me. 8)

I'm one of those 10yr veterans...all I got was a message from XBL on my dashboard thanking me for 10yrs of service. It included a redemption code for an XBL avatar "10 yr vet helmet" or something like that. I would have had to write it down and redeem...but I was in a hurry to play COD :o
