Xbox Live Games coming to Android

Want to play Xbox Live games but don’t have your Xbox nearby? How about an Android phone? According to one developer with a bit of inside information, Microsoft is currently working on an Xbox Live app for Android which will bring many of the service’s functionalities directly to Android users – including the ability to play games from Xbox Live Arcade.

This story actually broke thanks to a job posting on the official Microsoft careers website. The posting indicated that Microsoft had intentions to bring the Live service to Windows Phone, iOS and “other mobile platforms.” A quick bit of calling around, and it was easy to find a developer willing to confirm that Android was on the table. It’s a bit of an odd piece of news, since Microsoft has leaned so heavily on Xbox Live being exclusive to Windows Phone.

However, it’s always good to give your customers more ways to access your service. And while Microsoft isn’t conceding defeat in the mobile wars, they are aware that the Android and iOS markets are trouncing them in terms of mobile game sales. If they want to compete, bringing the Live app to Android and other platforms is essentially the only way to do it.

There’s no information on when we can expect an Android Xbox Live app, but we here at QJ will keep you posted as details emerge.

What do you think of Xbox Live on your Android phone?

I dunno who's buying them but I've never met anyone that's bought a WP7 phone, i mean who in their right mind's gonna spend £400 on a Nokia Lumia?

A Windows Phone 7 phone?

Just because your little circle of friends doesn't have one yet doesn't also mean it's unpopular or not worth it.

I actually enjoy using phones with WP7. Although I have never seen anyone in public carrying one. The only person I knew who had one was a guy at my high school who is pretty much destined to become the next Bill Gates.

He also looked like Luigi :P

Well it's definitely not a staple cell OS now, is it?

The problem is WP7 phones are usually more expensive than Android equivalents and the OS is simply worse in almost every way, and right now there's just no reason at all to buy one especially when you can buy a Samsung Galaxy S II for the same price as the Nokia Lumia, and the Samsung is just in a completely different league to that.

Yeah but i bet if you did a survey on Nokia Lumia owners i can guarantee almost all of them were due to renew their phone contract and just in the habit of buying top-end Nokia phones because of their quality (Which is nothing compared to what it used to be) I mean for about 12 years i bought nothing but Nokia phones and i actually like MS, but to me the only reason to buy a WP7 phone is either you just want a high end phone from a certain manufacturer or you like these people from a few years ago who only installs Linux in their Pc as some kind of protest against MS and Apple.

other reason to buy is if you use wmc/mce to record tv/movies & of corse netflix works with every wp7 device in the serviceable areas unlike android. also if you take a look @ se they dissolved their relationship after the release of their andriod phones

the only reason why nokia is having problems is they still put out meego phones(which are $50 cheaper)
