According to Famitsu, the Xbox 360's AC adaptor is the largest of any game console, with a length of 210 mm, width of 75 mm and height of 54 mm. The Japanese game magazine obtained an advance shipment of a limited edition Xbox 360 launch pack (retail approx $336), which included the console, a LAN cable, a D-terminal video cable, AC adapter, 20GB HD, Xbox 360 remote control, one wireless controller and a limited edition headset.

The adapter itself is roughly 85 percent in volume of the slim PS2 (850.5 cubic centimeters versus 978.9 cubic centimeters)--easily surpassing the size of the current-gen Xbox adapter.

According to Microsoft, the larger adapter is due to the higher electrical power consumption of the Xbox 360. The max power consumption of Microsoft's next-gen console is 254 watts--notably higher than the 200 watts for the Xbox and dwarfing the 45 watts for the PlayStation 2.

"The Xbox 360 has a triple-core CPU and an ATI graphics processor CPU--to have this running it requires a lot of power," Microsoft told Famitsu.

Interestingly, the adaptor purportedly has two fans inside, too. While Microsoft has yet to give official word on the final retail adapter for the North American version, the chances are high that the stateside Xbox 360 will also have a hefty AC adapter as well.

Any comments about the rumors that it will take 110 to 230 volts ? Or is it 110 to 120 for us and 220 to 230 for the rest of the world?

In a import point of view, 110 to 230 would be great.

Either way, J Allard's Smartass comment of PS3 not having any ventilation is becoming lamer and lamer
with 360 overheating and showing artifacts
as well as having the biggest adaptor in the market...which even needs fans...

heat might be a problem but all PSU have usally a few fans. Look at your pc..it has at least two. I dont think its a bad thing that the PSU needs sum fans at least we know its "Not" or hope it doesnt burn the carpet or w/e its on . lol ...

So it's as big as a slimline PS2 folded in half. Thats pretty insane but I could care less.

power supplys for comps have fans too, this is perfectly normal. The only reason the booth 360's are overheating is beause theyre in booths with no ventelaition. and dirty dog, Im not sure what your asking but i think your confusing watts with volts. A computer(along with the 360) consumes a very low voltage so the amount of voltage doesn't matter. They just need different adapters for different countrys becasue of different outlet shapes and the amount of voltage is different. Is the wattage that matters and even that is low. I'm surprised that the wattage is so low on the 360, a computer running that setup would easpily need a 600W power supply, but im not sure how much wattage a tiple core cpu takes up.

well, the funny thing is, microsoft tried to make a special PC rather than a console
when developing for Xbox......
just look at the power it consumes....
200 watts...versus 45 of PS2....

I'm just curious as to if this will float

its a power pack? do you really care how big it is? how many fans it has? if it will go to the fridge and get you a beer?

get over it, if the 360 does what its meant to i couldnt care if the power pack was bright orange with flashing lights.

So exactly what is everyone's problem with the large power supply... Take a look at the back of your computer (Apart from you crappy Dell owners) and look how big the PSU is - Fan(s) and all!... See - Large... You need a large PSU to power all of your computer, much like the 360 will need... Unless you all wanted the 360 to be as large as a midi case, and weight as much too!?
