XBLA Gamerscore Cap Going Up to 400 Next Month |
Listed in: News Tags: gamerscore cap raised, xbla, Xbox Live Arcade

Starting on April 1st, Xbox Live Arcade games will be able to breach the 200 gamerscore cap for the first time ever. There will be a bit of a grace period, then starting June 1st all XBLA games will have 400 gamerscore. In the interim, pre-existing and new XBLA games will be able to decide on a case-by-case basis which score they want to go with. It will also reportedly put in place a rule that allows for 100 GS with no more than 8 achievements per quarter for DLC.
So if an arcade game took full advantage of the new rule you'd be looking at 800 GS and up to 62 achievements.
So now gamers will be able to go for even more achievements in their favorite arcade games, but on the other hand many are already saying that this will provide merely another excuse for Microsoft and arcade developers to raise prices. This will undoubtedly prolong the life of many arcade games by a small margin, but if prices go up again that may offset those numbers.
Retail games have also recently breached their own gamerscore cap, so this isn't the biggest surprise I guess.
What do you guys think? Anyone care about achievements?
