Visceral Games’ decision to go with more action in the latest addition to the Dead Space franchise was a “necessary evil”. This is according to the series’ original writer, who said the move had to be done to attract a wider audience.

Antony Johnston wrote the original Dead Space, but he was not involved with the development of the recently released Dead Space 3. Why? He offered his reasoning to NowGamer, saying: “I'm personally a big fan of old-school survival horror, and that was one of the main reasons I wanted to work on Dead Space. So the greater emphasis on big action in the sequels means they're not really for me.”
