Will Mass Effect Help Star Trek Not Suck?

The Star Trek game was announced a couple months ago, and there was a little teaser to go along with it, but this new vid take a bit of a longer look at things. Not much longer, mind you, but it reaffirms what a lot of people said back when the first one came out - it has a Mass Effect look to it. It seems like a good fit, as many Trek and video game fans were making those comparisons long before this game was even thought of.

As with all movie tie-ins, of course, there's a fair chance this game will be truly horrible.

It's being made by The Darkness II developer Digital Extremes and will have you choose between playing Captain Kirk or Mr. Spock - and there will be a difference between the two's play styles. Spock will be able to use his Vulcan mind meld to trun foes into allies and will be altogether more strategic, which is logical. Kirk will be able to set his phaser to stun or kill and will be a more straight-ahead offense type of guy.

One can only hope there will be William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy skins available at some point.

Star Trek will be out Q1 2013. The teaser is below.

looks like it could swing either way, the graphics lack polish and seem to be deliberatly banking on ME's style, however that may make it a little bit better in the long run. The big problem I have with it is that Star Trek isn't an action series (up until the last movie anyway) so the idea of a story minimal run and gun doesn't sit too well with me.
