We Are Microsoft. Resistance is Futile. |

Microsoft filed for a patent on a wearable electromyography-based (EMG) controller back in March of 2009, but it was eventually dropped in favor of the Kinect. The patent on the wearable EMG has gone through the system, and now we're taking a look at what could have been, for better or worse. Remember the Nintendo Power Glove? Oh yeah.
The wearable EMG interprets the electrical signals in your muscles when you move to allow you to control various devices, such as a game controller or an iPod - or even a car door.
It looks like Microsoft is no longer pursuing the wearable EMG tech, for now. It is thought to have been part of what MS had codenamed the "Loop," which was one of the rumored names of the next Xbox, but it's all dead in the water for now.
That's a lot of wires, but the guys at the end of the video below say they're working on a wireless version, which would be a lot more feasible.
Next up: surgically implanted controllers.
