Turn 10: Innovation doesn't rely solely on hardware |

There's already been a lot of talk about Microsoft's next home video game console. Some are saying it could come out as early next year. Does this mean that the latest entry in the console's flagship racing series, Forza Motorsport 4, will be the last to grace the Xbox 360? Not necessarily.
Speaking to Eurogamer, Turn 10's Dan Greenawalt said that "there's no reason it has to be." According to him, hardware isn't the biggest factor in coming up with a game as graphically impressive as Forza 4. The trick lies in how developers "trick" the hardware into working more efficiently than it was originally designed to.
"Hardware can always help, but only after you've had some time to trick the hardware," he explained. "The reason we're able to do what we do is not by using the hardware the way it was supposed to be used. That's what happens on every version. Every game that looks great, the way it does it is by getting the hardware, learning every nook and cranny of it and tricking it into doing things more efficiently."
All that trickery would be easier on hardware that's been around for some time, of course, as developers would need to fully explore all the nooks and crannies of a new console before they can make it dance exactly the way they want.
"There are a lot of PCs that are really powerful now and yet a lot of the games don't look much better because it's an unstable platform," Greenawalt continued. "You have to make it for the lowest common denominator. So, would more power and more RAM help? Always. But it wouldn’t help immediately.
"And there's still plenty of things we can do on this hardware because it’s not always the hardware that delivers the experience. Auto Vista, the new IBL, new physics engine, new AI… there’s a lot of new innovation we have in this game. And this is our third version on this box. So innovation is a lot more than hardware."
Forza Motorsport 4 releases next week, exclusively on Xbox 360. You can find a list of achievements here. Mocrosoft and Turn 10 also have a Season Pass DLC initiative for the racing game.

Who the hell wants a game with 5* graphics if the game sucks awfully bad? Only those who play for the graphics.
