So after a few dozen employees were laid off earlier this year, it looks like THQ are still trimming the hedges and making sure no one escapes the wrath of their mismanagement. However, they are taking steps to fix their past mistakes and it looks like they are even changing the direction of their upcoming Warhammer 40K. It looks like Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millenium is no longer an MMO but will play out as a single-player title. The result is from the change of team sizes from two THQ internal studios which reduced the Texas based company Vigil games by 79 full-time employees as well as Vancouver game developer Relic Entertainment was whittled down to 39.

The change from the MMO model has reduced Warhammer back to it's roots and will be an immersive single player title with online multiplayer with "robust digital content (see: DLC) and engaging community features." THQ has promised that new details and release date will be annnounced later this year. THQ has already let go 240 employees and the way they have told these developers to let go so many employees is frightening, however someone is still happy.

"We are genuinely excited about the new direction that THQ is taking with Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millennium, and we are sure that this will be a great addition to the ever growing stable of authentic and engaging Warhammer 40,000 video games," said Jon Gillard, Head of Licensing for Games Workshop.

I'm sure he wouldn't be too happy if THQ cancelled his series altogether. It's tragic thinking of this many people losing their jobs, but at least we'll see a new RTS, that we've probably seen a million times before...
