Sonic Anniversary: It's a new Sonic title!

Right on cue, just as people expected, Sega announced their plans for the 20th anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog this year. How else to celebrate such a major milestone of one of the most memorable characters in video game history but to come out with some more?

Sega's marketing boss marketing boss confirmed that there will be two up in store, one of which will be Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode Two. As for the other one, it's still being heavily rumored as being either Sonic Anniversary or Sonic Generations. Of course, there's the annual Wii Sonic game, which is expected to continue the success of Sonic Colors.

They're already starting with their marketing rounds, having posted a brand new trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog in action, right on the franchise's official Facebook page.

But wait! It's not just Sonic. There are actually two of them! Have he been cloning himself while on vacation? Have a look at it yourself.

This game is expected to come out later this year, of course, in time for the anniversary, and will most likely come out on both the PS3 and Xbox 360 consoles.

I agree with you as well as others I would think that have been playing Sonic since the beginning. On the original Sonic The Hedgehog, Sonic was somewhat shorter and had an attitude. On Sonic The Hedgehog 2 he was a little taller and had a better look about him with the same Sonic attitude everyone loves. The newer games however, have failed to make Sonic the way he should be. Most Sonic games now make him sort of weird and goofy looking. I wish that the Sonic Team would pretty much copy and paste the old sonic from Sonic 2 but make more detailed high def rendering and animation. That would be perfect. Come on Sonic Team, it shouldn't be too hard to get this right.

Nah, my guess is a time paradox. If you notice how that other sonic is shorter and more round in the body, you can tell its a 3d version of the old style sonic from the genesis period.

They should just let Sonic rest in peace already. I remember thinking that they might have finally brought Sonic back to his former glory with Sonic Unleashed, were you actually got to do what Sonic does best, you know, run really really fast, but then they decided to throw in a werehedgehog sonic that, you know, doesn't run really really fast, infact, doesn't run at all...WHY!? Moral of the story, Sonic was a classic, lets just leave it that way instead of defiling his legacy.

Same could be said about Mario, but Nintendo's been fairly good with Super Mario.

But the Super Mario Anniversary edition for Wii was a total rip-off.

Sega's completely ruined Sonic with all these crappy on-rails platformers and just cashing in on the name at every opportunity. So the only way to save it is make a proper Sonic game like Sonic Adventure 3 and do HD remakes of 1&2 to backup it's release.

The Sonic games after Adventure 2 sucked, but I will admit that Sonic Colors was good. There's actually a reason behind it too. The creator for the good Sonic games left after SA2, and came back to make Sonic Colors. So if he's helping with this Sonic I have a feeling it'll be a good one

Sonic 4 Sucked this is most likely gonna suck too, SEGA has no talent when it comes to game development anymore hence why none of their stuff is any good people only buy the stuff cos it has Sonic on it, but doesn't mean its any good.

I'll still play it when it comes out but I seriously doubt my opinion will change.
