We all know that various developers already have their hands on next-gen dev kits and the like, whether they want to admit it or not. Of course, some of them can't help but tease us with what they have their grubby little hands on, such as Remedy Entertainment's (developer of Alan Wake, etc.) Oskari Hakkinen. He says that we won't believe how awesome the next generation of consoles will be, essentially.

"Right now we're working as always with a relatively small team on a next generation project," said the studio's Head of Franchise Development. "You always ask yourself: Can the new consoles really be that much better than the old ones? Be assured: They are. It is a quantum leap forward."

What do you think of Hakkinen's statement? Is the next generation guaranteed to blow our collective minds and be a "quantum leap forward?" Or is Remedy Entertainment just blowing smoke?

Better start saving some money up for the PlayStation 4. Will it make me want to buy another new TV with 3d and 4k Res? Lol who knows but fanboy wars aside, im excited about the next Gen systems.

apparently there's no major difference in picture quality between 4k and 1080p (from what I've heard)but at that res 3D content should be way more immersive and should make way for more auto-stereoscopic solutions (3D without Glasses) Avatar was shot at a 4K res originally, it's file size is around 3.15TB.

I bet most PS4 games will not be native 4K anyway, they will most likely be native 1080P games running at 60fps that are then upscaled to 4K.

I like how people say "it can't be that different." Just go back and plug in the N64 and gamecube or PS1 and PS2, it's a huge step forward.

Also excited to see the upcoming new tech in console and PC gaming. Fanboy wars aside (like uSteal said), competition is good and brings down the price.

That was before loss leaders, nowadays we've mostly hit the max poly count and can't venture outside without using new forms of graphics such as ray tracing or voxel/point cloud graphics. Integration of all the new SDK features could equal a major improvement though. Hair tessellation, PhysX, point cloud cloth, hell we could probably reach photo-realism if you tried to use them all together on a single entity.

The 4k res is just stupid and a gimick, Hardly any games will be made in that resolution. As far as being a "quantum leap forward" I should think so without a doubt. Its not before time as we already know current consoles can be pushed much harder. But alas the developers have become lazy and don't try too hard to push the technology we already have.
The nex gen consoles won't need pushing at all. So most games and apps should be easy to program.
