PoV: Mega Man is dead |
Listed in: News Tags: Capcom, dead franchises, mega man

The blue bomber may have had his last breath.
Early today Capcom said that Mega Man is still an important franchise.
"Mega Man is a very important brand to Capcom," said Capcom's Christian Svensson. "We get questions [like] 'Are you guys trying to kill the brand?' No, absolutely not. It will continue to be a very important brand for us. I wish I had something I could hold and display for you that that's the case, but I don't right now. But super, super important to us; I do want to express that."
That's a lie, of course. Capcom cancelled Mega Man Legends 3 far before it would release. That game had a market and there were tons of fans excited for a new Legends title.
They also cancelled Mega Man Universe. It may have been more than just a game cancellation -- Capcom seems to have cancelled the entire Mega Man universe.
It's not like Mega Man was ever a huge seller. Mega Man 9 and 10 did decently well, and it has enough brand recognition as a franchise. It's not something like the Too Human series, where nobody wants that trilogy completed.

MMX4, despite being a bunch of robots, actually had characterizatio n that played on emotions while making sense. If they can imitate that, they could revive the seriesssss

It's only dead if you can't create more quality games of the series.
There's been many fan-made versions that show innovation can still be put into the series.
It will only die if it turns into a CoD clone.
If you base this on the probability that CC will make another MM, then yeah, it's dead.

Mega Man on the other hand, controls like a bag of shit and couldn't care less if it continued other than the loss of a long standing, endearing character.

Fans have been begging for a Megaman X remake but they keep giving us these megaman 2 style Megaman 9, 10 games.
bottom line is promote Megaman more and it will probably sell alot better. and make something different. If you want to do classic, fine atleast make it an Megaman X game the nostalgia of Megaman 9 and 10 aren't exactly making it sell well.

If Capcom has proven anything recently, it's that the quality of the games is irrelevant. If they can find a way to milk the series, it'll live on. Albeit in likely marginalized form.

after re-releasing mvc3 capcom owes their fans some serious fan service. The only way they can reconcile their misdeeds is to release a new non-retro megaman game.
