PoV: Mega Man is dead

Mega-Man

The blue bomber may have had his last breath.

Early today Capcom said that Mega Man is still an important franchise.

"Mega Man is a very important brand to Capcom," said Capcom's Christian Svensson. "We get questions [like] 'Are you guys trying to kill the brand?' No, absolutely not. It will continue to be a very important brand for us. I wish I had something I could hold and display for you that that's the case, but I don't right now. But super, super important to us; I do want to express that."

That's a lie, of course. Capcom cancelled Mega Man Legends 3 far before it would release. That game had a market and there were tons of fans excited for a new Legends title.

They also cancelled Mega Man Universe. It may have been more than just a game cancellation -- Capcom seems to have cancelled the entire Mega Man universe.

It's not like Mega Man was ever a huge seller. Mega Man 9 and 10 did decently well, and it has enough brand recognition as a franchise. It's not something like the Too Human series, where nobody wants that trilogy completed.

Meh. It can't be THAT hard to make an awesome Mega Man game.. It used to be like every FPS today: A new release one with slightly updated features and new baddies or weapons. Legends was awesome.. He was awesome in MvC, the ones he was in, and my favorite game by far was Mega Man X4.. It actually had an awesome plot that was slightly different for Zero and Mega Man, and it was actually really sad.

MMX4, despite being a bunch of robots, actually had characterizatio n that played on emotions while making sense. If they can imitate that, they could revive the seriesssss

It's not dead.
It's only dead if you can't create more quality games of the series.
There's been many fan-made versions that show innovation can still be put into the series.
It will only die if it turns into a CoD clone.
If you base this on the probability that CC will make another MM, then yeah, it's dead.

Too Human is a fantastic game that plays like a dream if you actually bother to take the time to become fluent with the controls. I, for one would love the trilogy to be completed.

Mega Man on the other hand, controls like a bag of shit and couldn't care less if it continued other than the loss of a long standing, endearing character.

Not all is lost. With the loss of Mega Man, Capcom can now focus their resources on producing Street Fighter 8 Ultra Turbo Uber Super Mega Arcade Tournament Edition Collector's Pack.

Well capcom hardly ever markets their games. The only game they have even heavily promoted lately was Street Fighter IV. Also Resident evil has had a decent amount of promotions.

Fans have been begging for a Megaman X remake but they keep giving us these megaman 2 style Megaman 9, 10 games.

bottom line is promote Megaman more and it will probably sell alot better. and make something different. If you want to do classic, fine atleast make it an Megaman X game the nostalgia of Megaman 9 and 10 aren't exactly making it sell well.

This is a bit premature.
If Capcom has proven anything recently, it's that the quality of the games is irrelevant. If they can find a way to milk the series, it'll live on. Albeit in likely marginalized form.

they kill legends and universe. they refuse to put megaman on marvel vs capcom 3 and they have the nerve to say they that its still important? yea zero is on mvc3 but he feels like he was put on there simply because he's more of a edgier character. Firebrand? Pheonix Wright? really?

after re-releasing mvc3 capcom owes their fans some serious fan service. The only way they can reconcile their misdeeds is to release a new non-retro megaman game.

my favourite megaman game was the Megaman X remake "Megaman Maverick Hunter X" loved how they did it for psp i own the umd and i bought it off the psn so i can play it on my vita when it releases :). i personnally think they should have put legends 3 on psv or ps3 anyways it just seems like it would make more sense cuz thats more of a hardcore megaman game and sony took over all megamans interest. but honestly if they dont announce something gamescom im goin to spam emails at capcom to sell the series to sony or something cuz megaman has fans. cuz them taking him out marvel vs capcom made no sense cuz he was one of the biggest characters to use in the game. in every group of friends who played someone always used him. but they replaced him with zero and keep tron WTF? smh they dont deserve to keep that series actually especially the creator left, he should have brought the rights with him and give a better team that will respect him

I agree with Teflon. All I want is for Megaman to go back to its original side-scrolling goodness. I loved Megaman X, ZX Advent, and most of all, the Zero series. The Battle Network games were fun, but I feel the Gamecube version of Battle Network that was still a side scroller was where that series truly had the opportunity to shine. For some reason, as far as our beloved Blue Bomber goes, Capcom has never heard of, "if it isn't broke, don't fix it."

Well if you look at what Capcom has been doing, their trying to play safe. So far the games they release has the same formula. Megaman Legends could be a hit but there was not certain it would be since the mechanics are something they haven't tried in a while. What I hope is Capcom gets out of their shell and make something great soon.

Yeah, about his non-inclusion in mvc3; how would being in there make him any less dead? Viewtiful Joe is in that game, and his last real game was in 2005. Even if Mega Man had been in the game, that still wouldn't change the fact that there are no new Mega Man games in the works.
