EA's Patrick Soderlund has made the announcement that over 800,000 subscribers have signed up for the Battlefield 3 Premium in the first two weeks of the service. That isn't too bad at all is it?  For a little bit of a comparison, 2 million people signed up for Call of Duty Elite in the first six months.

"We are very pleased with the performance so far," Soderlund said. "We're actually only two weeks into it, so it's a little early to tell how this is going to pay off. It certainly looks very promising now."

Because of this big success, Soderlund says that EA will be looking to implement something similar in future Electronic Arts releases. These comments echo those made EA top dog Frank Gibeau, so it will most likely happen.

What do you think about these sorts of programs?  Have any of you got in on the Battlefield 3 Premium action?  What do you think about it and would you recommend Battlefield 3 Premium to fans of the first person shooter?

Everyone complained about CoD Elite just being another way for Activision to rape your wallet but no one complains when BF3 does exactly the same thing, and yeah they are both charging for some stuff that should be free but this just proves there's some serious double standards going on here and people just say they hate CoD because people don't like when something's too successful and BF3 is the underdog.

BF3 has alot more going on than CoD, you initially get more than you pay for than CoD. What I see are 5 full Expansion packs in a bundle than not only include just maps and 'novelty' perks, but additional Weapons and Vehicles. I don't see Premium as a subscription service, But a complimentary package that wont exactly be Game Breaking for other players who don't want to buy it.

Bad news, not only are they going to add premium service for other games, It also gives the developers less incentive to make the maps the best that they can be (with 800k people & counting, who already payed for it)

This is the same thing as a season pass as seen on several other games but with more perks associated with it. Its really not a bad deal. It makes each expansion pack only $10 instead of $15 plus you get additional features on Battlelog.

With COD Elite all you get is a web thing similar to Battlelog and its $50 a year. This is a one time $50 fee for something, if you like playing BF3 a lot, will be more than your moneys worth. I'm waiting to be able to get it for less, don't get me wrong. I'm just a cheap bastard like that. But as it is, I still see the value of it.
