The Ghost Recon: Future Soldier beta started last week and lasts until May 2nd. To help people get a better idea of what's going on, Ubisoft put out a couple of videos featuring Tommy Jacob, the game's Creative Director for multiplayer. In these videos, Tommy goes over everything you ostensibly need to know to get started.

In the first video, he talks about the different maps and stuff available in the beta. The first map is called Pipeline and it's set in Nigeria. It features a lot of tight corners and corridors and favors shotguns and SMGs. The other map (there are only two in the beta) is called Mill and it's set in Russia. Mill is more wide open and beset by a light mist, making it perfect sniper territory. It also has a lot of trees, which makes it prime territory for engineers' drones. There are also choke points in this bisected map that are great places for placing equipment.

In the second video, Jacobs goes over the classes. Like most games, you have a soldier, a scout, and an engineer. Soldiers can take more damage and wield heavier weaponry with suppression features, scouts can go invisible and slit throats, snipe, and stun enemies to hack intel, and engineers automatically detect when a sniper's scope is on them and have a bunch of gear including drones and turrets. Nothing incredibly new to be sure, but it looks pretty sweet.

The beta only has a week left, but there are plenty of ways to get into it out there right now. Just take a look around. The full game comes out May 22nd.

I'm just glad it went to use. I bought Splinter Cell just for the beta and 2 days later I get that code in my email. I tried to give it away to my ungrateful friends who didn't want it. So enjoy the hell out of the beta for the next week! I know I will...
