New BioShock Infinite Trailer Showcases Gameplay |
Listed in: News Tags: bioshock infinite, Irrational Games, VGA

'Tis the season for video game trailers and at the VGAs we got a new look at BioShock Infinite. This new trailer lets us see that Columbia, the floating city in which the game is set, has come upon hard times. There are some Depression-era-looking signs and people are starving and desperate. Who would have thought a city in the sky would suck so bad?
Aside from the setting, which looks beautiful despite the suffering, we get to see a lot of new stuff that has been added to the BioShock franchise. Since this game takes place in the air instead of the underwater city of Rapture, the gameplay opens up considerably. There are rails upon which the presumed Splicers cruise around on (and you'll probably use them too), a rocket attack on the city from a flying zeppelin, and the addition of (probably steam-powered) robotics/cybernetics.
So while they are departing from the previous two games, it looks like Irrational Games has some good ideas here. It looks like they're incorporating some steampunk into the mix and you have to admit that if the entire trailer is in-game footage rather than cutscenes it's going to be unbelievable. Far too often, we get a trailer that is entirely CG so we have no idea how the game is going to be. Hopefully this trailer starts a real trend.
