2K Games announced that they would include a multiplayer mode in The Darkness II a couple of weeks ago and the groans were audible considering the horrible MP experience of the first game, despite the excellent story and fun gameplay in single player. A lot of people that took the time to check out the information about The Darkness II's MP mode, however, changed their tune. This new mode is called "Vendettas" and it's more of a Left 4 Dead co-op experience than another crummy deathmatch.

These vignettes reveal a little bit more about the 4 characters you get to play in Vendettas. The vignettes are less than a minute long and showcase Jimmy, Inugami, JP Dumond, and Shoshanna. One thing that comes across in these vignettes that hasn't exactly been made clear in previous videos is the combat roles the four characters play. It looks like their roles may have been designed to somewhat emulate those found in MMOs/tabletop gaming - if there's anyone left out there that still plays those. Jimmy is the tank/defender, Inugami is the melee striker/DPS, JP Dumond is the controller/crowd control, and Shoshanna is a ranged striker/DPS. It's not clear if any of the characters will have any sort of healing/leadership abilities to round out the comparison. Just a thought. It also looks like each character will have their own Darkling with a matching outfit and abilities.

The Darkness II is due out in February 2012.
