Disclaimer: This article contains my opinion. The surgeon general recommends that you turn back now if you find such material objectionable and save yourself some mental anguish. If you don't mind, however, please read on.
Those of us that have been playing Gotham City Impostors since it came out last week are aware of the stat-wiping bug that's been going around. Unlike Gears 3's stat-wiping issue, no one knows where this one comes from and it seems to strike at random. Well, the guys at Monolith are aware of it, and they're working on it.
Users are sounding off on the official GCI forums, and the devs are listening and responding. Besides offering the obligatory "Sorry for the inconvenience" crap someone also tossed around the idea of the stat wipe being an issue with users that upgraded from the trial version to the full version. I went straight from the beta to the full version, so fingers crossed.
Of particular worry is the fact that you can download a stat boost for GCI for a single real-world dollar...and if you did so and then had a stat wipe you basically wasted your dollar(s). It's one thing to have fake video game stuff disappear, but now people's real money is going up in smoke - and Monolith is going to have to cover it.
For a game with 1000 levels (yes, you read that right - 1000 levels), a stat wipe is particularly worrisome. Of course, it's still early in the game's cycle and the highest rank I've seen is 222 (which is still an insane amount of playing in one week) so maybe all will be resolved in a satisfactory manner.
Have you or anyone you know had the stat wipe affect them?
