We've been informed today that there are going to be no more Backward Compatibility updates released for the Xbox 360 until March at the earliest. Microsoft's David Reid has stated that the team who do the BC work are on holiday throughout January and will start work on priority titles when they return. But from what it sounds like, there will be only a few more updates released through 2006.
This will come as a disappointment to many new Xbox 360 users, not only because the lack of new 360 titles but also any new plain Xbox titles they may like the look of (Black for example) will not work on their shiny new 360. It is no wonder less Xbox games are being sold now.

this is bull****...
glad i didn't sell my xbox and still have it siting next to my 360.

sell it? hack it and throw all your emulators on it, priceless.

Same here plus i never sell any of my old consoles I usually just either store them away for memory keep sakes. There's no point in selling or trading them off sinceyou won't get much out of it anyhow. Plus its good to let your workers rest after all doing this stuff ain't a easy task because most of the time you fix one problem while creating 10 new ones hey its Microsoft its always been that way.

Bull****?? i could understand a reactiong like that if they just said, "no more, thats that" but the folks are taking a holiday for goodness sakes.

vacation time is over. Everyone else is back to work... Lazy ass Microsoft bc team. I am very disapointed.

I have to work. Did they not get a xmas or winter holiday? I don't have just random Montly holidays.
Maybe I should just consider modding my xbox.....need to get into that...
anyone want to throw a few sites at me to get started?

more evidence of microsofts lackluster effort in dethroning sony. sell an issue that you know there gonna have just to sound as good then say **** it and never live up to the promises.
I just hope theres no more Hard Drive mess ups like the ps2 on the ps3.(but i cant be mad cuz my ps2 hdd holds 40+ games)

This should be released at about the same time I actually get my Harddrive - surely MS would be making these available so that gamers who could only find core packs can get online and download demos etc. The seem rarer than actual 360's.

This is definately bull****. You don't give people the option of having bc with some titles and then not even stepping it up for the new most awaited games (Black) that are coming out because your people need a month holiday. This pisses me off to no end. **** M$ and their bull****.

am i the only 1 that doesnt care? i bought the system for 360 games not xbox. I can honestly tell u i never played 1 psx game on my ps2.

its not a month jackass. its the REST of january, were already on the 21st!!! so in a little more than a week they are gonna get back on it. march is when it will be RELEASED, they still have to work on it. plus, bc is an extra. if you want to play old xbox games that badly then buy an xbox. ps2 did bc at the hardware level and even it has problems with some games. microsoft id doing it on the software level wich is alot harder to pull off. give em a break.

This is BS.
THey hyped up the BC on the "top games"
Hell some of the ones that are supposedly compatible still sucked (see Ninja Gaiden). They must've hired the lazy bleem! crew.
A month vacation? A ton of us in IT would die for such a thing. C'mon MS, outsource that to India and China. They'll get it done faster for the same amount of money since they can hire more workers who won't/can't take a break.

its not a month you dumb ass!!! its the REST of january. thats not even 2 weeks!
ninja gaiden is all that and a box of tacos, what are you smoking? they never hyped bc, they included it in the features list but that is not the same as hyping. it is already compatible with over 250 games and march is only a little more than a month away. i wish they could do a little dance and make bc magickly work for all game but they cant. it takes hard work and time. you payed for a 360 not an xbox1. and they released the bc list before the console came out so you didnt have to get it if you didnt like it. stfu and stfd.

I guess i over reacted in my first post....I hope they make some good games BC instead of "Barbie Adventure"....

the point is: this shouldnt be an issue.
if you're going to develop a machine, do it BEFORE it is released for sale.
if its not backward compatible, fine. but dont sell it as backward compatible if the issue that stops a game from working is that the programers' grandma died, 3 months after the machine was sold.

People don't BUY a 360 because it can play old games...its a BONUS FEATURE that could have been left out and people still would have bought the 360.
You can get a ahold of Xboxes for 100 bucks these days, if you are complaining, get a job.
And seriously, they deserve long breaks, I work at a video game development studio and there are times that you will work 70-80 hour weeks for a few weeks in a row.

i went to blockbuster today and picked out a game for regular xbox. what sucks is compatibility. I forgot all about it. so I rent call of duty 2: big red one and I come home to find my 360 saying this game isn't compatible...blah blah..goto www.xbox/com/games. so I go there and it isn't on the list. I basically gave blockbuster 8 dollars.

not going to say it is entirlely your fault...but you should have researhced....especially since you are on this site.....

It's an extra we paid that is was said the system was going to have. And march isn't a definite date. it's more like a maybe date. if you have your original xbox great but if you that sucks but still M$ promised this feature and now they falling very short on this. this bad business

Isn't going to be too long that Microsoft will keep working in backward compatibility...
Soon, they will bother with it no more.
A pity.

Wow. For a system with a target age group of what? - 18 to 25? (older?) - it sure seems like there are a lot of crybabies. Especially to the person above me - a feature they promised? Hardly. It was always their position that the system would only emulate some of the best games (I'm actually surprised it emulates as many as it does at this point). And while I don't agree completely with the game selection on the list, I must say that I can't complain and that Microsoft is doing what they said they would. Quit crying, do some research, and deal with what you have.

So, was there something stopping you from checking to see if it was compatible before you rented it?

Its ****ing retarded. Who gives a **** if they work 80 hours and need a group vacation? They're coding for christ's sake. They're not knocking coal off tunnel 8 miles under a mountain. They're not risking their lives on the seas trying to catch fish. Its a desk job infront of a computer.
These people are getting payed plenty for what they do, and if they're not happy with the job they have, go get a better degree.

PS3 - Hasn't launched yet. 17,000+ games are compatible with it.
Xbox 360 - Launched in November. Less than 500 games are compatible with it.

Do you plan on playing 17,000 games on the ps3?

Well its nice to know that with the PS3, we won't have to second guess if a game is compatible on a stupid list!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!

there really is no logical argument for this being a good thing for the consumer. everything here borders on the fonboyism/must swear rule.

ok i know 16,900 games on the ps3 are crap
i own all the systems, the most i do backwards compatibility wise is play SNES on my psp
Reply
Dude, the PS3 is not even out so it's really not compatible with anything yet. haha!
But honestly, we don't yet know if the PS3 will be backwards compatible.
It's not been announced and the rumours have actually hinted it might not be backwards compatible.

i am not saying this is a good thing.(that would be retarded fanboyism) but its not that bad and the vacation is less than a couple weeks. you all obviously didnt read the post. a new UPDATE wont be out untill march or april but their vacation is only the rest of the month wich is only a little over a WEEK. march is the estimate on when it will be DONE. quit crying you babies.

Not sure if this is all that true. Just read a press release from EA stating that Black will be compatible for the Xbox 360... was an inter office memo from EB and Gamestop.
