Microsoft Staff Surprised By E3 2011 Minecraft Announcement |

The deal to bring Minecraft to the Xbox Live Arcade was only struck about a week before the announcement at E3 2011, according to Microsoft Studios guy Phil Spencer. It was all so rushed, in fact, that the Minecraft on-stage reveal was made the night before its was to be unveiled at the conference.
"Even the people inside Microsoft, as they were looking at it, were thinking, 'What is that Minecraft thing and why are we putting it on stage?'" Spencer says.
Of course, it goes without saying that Microsoft is extremely pleased at how well Minecraft has performed on the XBLA.
"And then the thing comes out and sells 2 million copies in a month," Spencer said. "Did I know that? No. Even Mojang didn't know that."
Anyone who's ever taken part in the publisher/developer side of things at a convention or conference is probably familiar with this sort of thing, but it's still funny to see it going on at this level.
Who's playing Minecraft out there?
