Despite not being officially announced, some US retailers have begun allowing customers to pre-order the highly anticipated Halo 3. The title, hinted at by Microsoft's Bill Gates earlier this year is likely to break the $250m first day sales record already set by Microsoft's 2004 blockbuster hit Halo 2.
The news has prompted speculation that Microsoft may announce the game at CES 2006 in Las Vegas. Any form of announcement, verbal or visual is likely to deal a blow to any Sony announcement regarding the Playstation 3.
Microsoft was unavailable for comment at the time of writing.

Yes, but the people who haven't bought a 360 yet and are interested in the halo franchise will probably pick the 360 console, which will have even more games out at the time then the ps3, and halo 3.
I'm not saying halo 3 will blow Sony out of the water...but it will at least increase sells for the 360.

Are you kidding? HALO2 (whether you like it or not) is the Best selling Videogame in history! No other game has even come close to selling much units as HALO2. The announcement of HALO3 during CES will surely take some spotlight from PS3.

Halo 2 isnt the best selling video game in history by far. Its grossed the most in the first day no sale, more than anything in any entertainment industry but it hasn't sold the most over all. San Andreas has sold more than Halo 2 as for all time that'll go to the Sims with all their expansion packs and such. Yeah an anouncement of Halo 3 would be something huge at CES, but not as big as playable PS3 games. Cuz thats what I think Sony's using the biggest booth of CES for.

You cant counter Halo 3 with MGS3 anything. It'll take MGS4 to counter Halo 3 and even then Halo 3 would generate more buss.
Playable PS3 games at CES would outshine Halo 3 anouncement, but not a playable version Halo 3. But I'm not expecting to see Halo 3 playable outside of Bungie until E3.

Halo 3 will definately put a stake in PS3's side, that is, if people are willing enough to dump the money on an X360 just for Halo 3. I think MS needs to get more quality games out for the system before that happens.
Keep in mind, GTA will have a new title near the PS3 launch, we dont even know the other launch titles yet. It will be an interesting fight. I'll be rooting for PS3 :)
