Microsoft May Be Buying a Majority Share of Activision |
Listed in: News Tags: Activision, Blizzard, Microsoft

It's just a rumor at this point, but word is that Microsoft is looking to buy up Vivendi's majority share in Activision Blizzard. This would give them 60% share of the company, but they are in competition with Chinese company Tencent Holdings, Time Warner, and other investment companies to get this share.
Vivendi is apparently overwhelmed with debt and such a sale could raise $10 billion for the firm. According to Reuters, nothing is finalized and it's unlikely that Microsoft will end up with 60% share. An unidentified source says, "They probably don't want to distract themselves too much, but they are the ones who, if they want to stay in games, would think about owning some of these big franchises, not just providing the consoles."
What do you think about the possibility of Microsoft having a big say in franchises such as Call of Duty and World of Warcraft were this to happen? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Plus, they're busy with other stuff. The short version of the story right now is that there really aren't any serious buyers on the table.
I saw an awesome post on this with an analyst basically knocking down every current "buyer," but I can't find it now for the life of me. Anyway, chances are higher that Vivendi will cash Activision out and spin it off on its own.

If MS did this then it would happen with EVERY Activision game. I don't mind exclusive deals, but a month is a pretty long time to wait. At least Battlefield 3 was only a 1 week exclusive deal.
