After an extensive investigation, Microsoft has begun suspending Xbox Live users who "illegitimately accessed Xbox Live Marketplace downloadable content."

In a post over at the Xbox.com forum titled "Suspended for Marketplace Theft?", a Microsoft representative explained the reason behind the bans.

"During the course of a recent investigation, we have discovered users who illegitimately accessed Xbox Live Marketplace downloadable content," notes the MS rep.

"Our investigation reveals that this access was intentional and not accidental, constituting a blatant violation of the Terms of Use for the service. We will not divulge additional information regarding individual suspensions for these offences.

"Please know that we are being very careful regarding these suspensions, and have clear evidence regarding each account issued a permanent suspension from the service. We apologize for any frustration or confusion resulting from our inability to share individual details, and thank you all for your cooperation in this matter."

Aside from guarding thoroughly guarding their network, Microsoft is also busy prepping up for the next Xbox 360 dashboard update that is currently slated for release later this year.

Microsoft's only protecting them and everyone who uses Xbox LIVE, so kudos for them. ^_^

"Microsoft's only protecting themselves, so kudos for their deception. T_T"

This looks much better, don't you agree? :P

My guess is many of the people banned were like the child of my friend, who bought his xbox from ToysRus, bought all his games from stores and would never even think of stealing, let alone know how. If microsoft has been hacked, I imagine it's possible hackers have done so using microsoft accounts of people like my friend's. Whatever the explanation, it isn't that this child stole content! Dealing with their security issues by banning a child and claiming that they "have clear evidence" he is a thief... tsk tsk, Microsoft.

About time. People using the DLC gamerprofile glitch really got annoying. It was obviously able to be caught.

How was it annoying?
Did they cheat or did they hack you?
The only thing DLC glitches did was allow them to play the DLC.
How you were annoyed by that is just mind blowing. :o

I wonder how many "marketplace thieves" were just children like the one in the link below who did nothing wrong, or maybe whose accounts were hacked into. Either way, shame on you, Microsoft!

no it is BULL S*IT i just got banned myself too and i been a good honest buyer for 2 years now just to get banned out of the blue and the worst part of all this is that now for to get the stuff back i have to spend all of the money again and they wonder why people do pirate downloading i really thinking hacking my console not buying any more stuff and just start downloading the games for free instead of wasting my money on company that just blames people of market place stealing. im not using xbox live gold anyways and i can still update my games when needed just plain wrong
