Fans waiting for the next installment of BioWare's popular sci-fi themed RPG series will have to wait a bit longer as the original "Holiday 2011" release date for the game has been pushed back.

Hot off the press from EA earnings call today, EA boss John Riccitiello revealed that Mass Effect 3 will be pushed back a bit to further polish the game. "Essentially, step by step, [BioWare is] adjusting some of the gameplay mechanics and some of the features that you'll see at E3 that can put this into a genre equivalent of shooter-meets-RPG, and essentially address a far larger market opportunity than Mass Effect 1 did and Mass Effect 2 began to approach," he said.
Right after the news broke, Bioware's Facebook page confirmed that the game is now slated to arrive Q1 2012. Casey Hudson, executive producer for the series, writes: "Mass Effect 3 will be released in the first three months of 2012. The development team is laser focused on making sure Mass Effect 3 is the biggest, boldest and best game in the series, ensuring that it exceeds everyone's expectations."

For the love of God don't let Bethesda push back Skyrim like this. Two of my most anticipated games of this holiday, and one of has been pushed back. Damn.

if the third title is indeed the best of the serie then it might well be of the greatest game ever.
i'd rather have a couple of month later and have AAAA game, Bioware can do it!

still, they could genuinely be polishing off the game, unlike Gears of War 3, which i KNOW was ready for its April release, but MS said "no we need a triple A title for November as we dont know about another Halo game..."

Great! What that means is they are going to take away any character customizing and water down they conversation trees like they did for dragon age 2. I am glad that Bioware has decided to go for a larger segment of the market by making their games more shallow and basically more exciting for the masses. I will pass on this game and all Bioware games. I wonder if EA has anything to do with this trend that Bioware is on? Cannot wait for Skyrim though!!!
