Led Zeppelin Guitar Hero almost happened |
Listed in: News Tags: Activision, Guitar hero, led zeppelin

Activision nearly nailed down a Guitar Hero deal with rock group Led Zeppelin.
"In the case of Guitar Hero, we did the research and it was very clear people didn't want more 80s heavy metal music," said Activision CEO Bobby Kotick.
"But what they wanted was very difficult for us to get from the music companies. I'll give you an example: The number one thing that our audiences wanted in Guitar Hero was Led Zeppelin," he continued. "But we couldn't get Led Zeppelin to consent to give us the rights."
And there were a lot of instances of that, a whole host of artists who just didn't want to give rights to Guitar Hero, and it was hard to get around that. And then there were other things... we put things out there that were not ready for prime time and that today actually would resonate very well with audiences."
Guitar Hero won't be gone for too long. Kotick revealed that Activision has plans to reinvent the series.

so....which is it, QJ? either it almost happened, or it was never going to happen, especially since Zep has said that they will never give up their master tapes for anyone.

example: I almost called in sick, but decided to go in to work anyway".
what actually happened in the GH/Zep story:
Dev1: "hey, you know who we should add to GH? Zeppelin!"
Dev2: "cool, call them up and ask them"
Dev1: "okay!"
[5 minutes later]
Dev2: "what did they say?"
Dev1: "they said 'Go piss in yer hat' - i guess that means no?"

I would love to see a Led Zep or Pink Floyd game given the love that The Beatles: Rock Band was given. Damn, that was a good game. All the while I'd hate to see any groups game given the treatment Aerosmith or Metallica was. Green Day rock band was ok, and the way they animated the live shows after actual concerts would probably work for led zep, albeit with some more work put into the effects - like seen on The Song Remains The Same.
