Killzone 3-Kinect hacker speaks up

Ó

He was just a regular joe who loves playing games, tinkering with his consoles, and putting stuff up on YouTube. All that changed, however, when he posted a video of his latest hack -- that of Killzone 3 running with Kinect.

shantzg001 had an interview with NextGen Retro, and here he talked about the current state of his project, as well as his future plans for it.

For those of you wondering if he's still continuing with the development of the hack, he reassures that he is "indeed still working on it.

"The video was posted as a proof of concept (judging by all the negative comments on YouTube, maybe a little too early. But I was excited with the work and didn't really think that I should make it foolproof to make people believe). I am pretty short on time generally because of my day job and family but I plan to dedicate my weekends to it. I'd be working on a lesser game this time though, more acquainted for gesture control. Something like Flower maybe."

Having hacked the Kinect himself, what then does he think are the possibilities for the gadget?

"Hypotethically, Kinect could become an alternative for a lot of casual games on PS3. I don't really see it being used for fast action reflex games like KZ3 but then I'm not an expert, just a curious guy who loves to dip his toes into the coding dirt."

Here's the video of Killzone 3 running on Kinect, in case you missed it the first time around.

I think it funny that the best things coming from Kinect are hacks and homebrew stuff... not actual games on the 360 :P

Now Sony do you see how MS aren't suing everyone at every possible opportunity? This is because they have the confidence to let things like this happen and know they still have the ability to keep the 360 healthy.

Microsoft don't sue people for playing around with the Kinect for one simple reason:
Microsoft themselves have no idea what the fuck they are supposed to do with the Kinect so they let hackers and the bunch play around with it in the hope someone comes up with a worthwhile, killer application for it.

As soon as that happens they produce that idea themselves, sell it and sit back with a big smile on their face.

The person who initially came up with it ? He'll be bought out of his share of the pie.
