Kickstarter is doing a hell of a job of giving projects a way to obtain funding, and the site announced some impressive statistics to back this up.

A post on the Kickstarter blog announced that the site has managed to pass the $100 million mark in funding since its inception in 2009.  A total of $107.6 million and counting has been pledged to games projects through the site from a total of 633,242 backers.  This has helped 1,476 projects to successfully get off the ground.

A look at the funding history of Kickstarter shows how it has blown up in terms of popularity.  Here’s the monetary breakdown of dollars pledged to games over the last four years:

  • 2009: $60,601
  • 2010: $546,362
  • 2011: $3,855,692
  • 2012: $83,144,565
  • 2013: $22,423,264 (to date)

To accompany the good news, Kickstarter posted a list of ten funded video games worth playing at the moment:

  • FTL (Faster than Light)
  • Kentucky Route Zero
  • Organ Trail
  • Blindside
  • Guns of Icarus
  • God of Blades
  • Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams
  • Strike Suit Zero
  • Cognition: An Erica Reed Thriller
  • Zombies Run
  • Sidius Nova

Have you funded any projects via Kickstarter?

Its about damned time. I've long been tired of seeing 100s of music tracks under the new downloads section. Its great for people that have spent the better part of
$10,000 downloading all of those tracks so they can pretend to play music, but damn is it annoying for those of us who don't.
