id: Rage engine will power future generations |

id Software believes that their Rage engine will be used to power consoles many generations into the future.
"John Carmack feels that this technology is very forward scalable. He believes it will be with us for many years, it has a solid foundation, with the ability to stream every texture in the game right to the screen fast," said id Software's Tim Willits. "You could even stretch your imagination farther and say that you could actually put all the assets of a game like Rage on a cloud somewhere and then pull them down."
"The fact [is] that most of our assets sit in media and we pull them into the game. We could take that media and literally put it anywhere else. Yes we'd have to change the engine a little bit but it wouldn't be very difficult. So yeah, you can imagine the future and imagine that id Tech 5 will be right there," he added.
Due to the buyout by Zenimax, it's not likely that id Tech 5 will be used to power third party games similar to Unreal Engine 3. However, it's possible that future Elder Scrolls games will run on the engine.
