Epic Games has announced that there will be no Bulletstorm 2. At least, not anytime soon. Developers People Can Fly were apparently working on it, but now it's been shelved.
Epic pres Mike Capps said that "initial development" was underway, but they decided to refocus People Can Fly's efforts elsewhere. "We thought a lot about a sequel," he said, "and had done some initial development on it, but we found a project that we thought was a better fit for People Can Fly."
Speaking on that project, he said, "We haven't announced that yet, but we will be announcing it pretty soon."
Epic has previously admitted that Bulletstorm didn't make money for them, which probably has something to do with this decision. He backed this up by saying that "from a sales perspective it was good, but not amazing. I think EA was hoping we'd do better." He did call the game "critically successful" and that many people "enjoyed seeing something new," but it always boils down to the dollars.
It had been rumored that People Can Fly would take the reins of the Gears of War franchise after Epic announced that they were done with it, so efforts may be focused there. Though it won't be a Kinect game, since Epic canceled that one as well.
