Hold Up: "The Next Xbox" Mention is "not true." |

While in my initial write-up I sort of assumed that maybe the company had given in due to the recent leak of dev-kit pictures, it appears MS has a different take on things that may take at least a little bit of wind out of everybody's sails.

According to the guys and gals over at Microsoft, it appears the mention of the system may have just been an incorrect "slip of the tongue." In a statement issued today, the company states:
“The comments to The Verge were not understood in their intended context. When Brian mentioned a ‘new wave of products,’ he was referring to the full lineup of products coming later this year from Microsoft, including..our fall Xbox update which will bring a host of new consumer experiences."
From that statement, QJ readers can take away one of two things: either Brian made the obvious and rather stupid mistake of confusing a system with a system update, or Microsoft is just trying to save whatever bit of secrecy there is over this yet to be released product. My guess happens to be on the latter.
If you're the kind of person that doesn't believe in anything until you see some hard evidence, this will probably discourage you a bit, but from what the industry has reported thus far it very much appears another Xbox is indeed on the horizon.
What do you guys think? Is this a bad slip of the tongue or a damage control tactic? Give us your thoughts on the comments section, and keep waiting as we bring you everything we possibly can on the next-gen console war!
