Halo Wars - Bungie Thought It Was "Whoring Out the Franchise" |
Listed in: News Tags: bungie, Ensemble Studios, halo wars

Halo Wars, being an RTS, was a bit off the beaten path for the Halo franchise. As it turns out, Bungie never wanted it to happen in the first place. Ensemble Studios is the developer that made Halo Wars and its founder Tony Goodman is speaking out on the matter.
"Microsoft was pretty risk-averse and they said, 'I don't know if we want to take the risk of creating strategy games on a console. We'd feel better if Halo were attached to it,'" Goodman says. He says Ensemble was essentially told to "just paint over what you have with Halo stuff."
As the title suggests, Bungie was never down with Halo Wars from go according to Goodman.
"Another problem was that Bungie was never up for it," he says. "Bungie was kind of sore about the idea. What they called it was 'the whoring out of the franchise' or something."
Going on, Goodman said, "Yeah, that didn't create a great relationship between us and Bungie; they viewed us as someone infringing."
What did you think of Halo Wars? Do you agree with Goodman?

I agree with bungie, whoring a good title is never a good way to market.

I think that Halo Wars had potential to be better, a real shame that it wasn't.
