An alleged Sega employee is out there claiming that Gearbox mishandled funds in creating Aliens: Colonial Marines and other games. After Aliens: CM got a bunch of negative reviews and didn't do as well as Sega and Gearbox hoped, you have to wonder if this is just sour grapes...if it's even legit. Previously, it has been suggested that Gearbox outsourced the game to Section 8 dev TimeGate and basically went hands-off. It's a mess of he-said, she-said.

The guy who made these claims is supposedly named Bryan Danielson and he posted it all on a blog called Sega Awakens

"Gearbox stole from Sega," he says. "They robbed us, lied to us about the game, and tried to get another company to make the game instead.

"Pitchford and Gearbox wanted to focus heavily on Duke Nukem Forever, but how would they get the money to hire some of the 3D Realms team and even buy the intellectual property?

"Sure, they made a lot from Borderlands, but guess where they got the money to fund Borderlands in the first place? Yup, Sega.

"So Gearbox essentially lied to Sega, mishandled funds, broke agreements and contractual obligations to work on other projects, didn't want to work on a game they were contractually obligated to work on and gave it to another team, poor organization and direction on A:CM, took on too many projects from different companies at once, and other things that we may not even know about.

"Hell, part of me believes that Gearbox wanted this thing delayed as much as possible so they can get more funding to embezzle from Sega."

Ouch.

so if all of this is true what kind of ramifications could gearbox receive? would the company be in danger of collapsing after some serious lawsuits? god only knows, but I'll be watching to find out.

if the claims are true, I hope GearBox gets sued into oblivion.

Either way, I hope they at least get yelled at for a long time by Sega for releasing such a shit pile of a game.

If this is true, then gearbox may lose more than a law suit, an independent studio gain works mostly on reputation and trust, if they lose that it's the end

Nothing will come of this. It's all unsubstantiated gossip forced into the limelight by a scorned Jim Sterling. If Sega and Gearbox come to blows, they'll settle out of court.

Next, Borderlands 3 sells a billion copies.
