One of our fans, Inferno52386 (gamertag), shot us an email regarding an unheard of problem. With his Xbox 360, he is having a problem with the stability of the box whenever he changes the faceplate. Quite odd. He notes that he is not sure if it is a hard drive problem or directly related with the faceplate, but here’s his dilemma:
“When I first put everything together and put my new faceplate on, I booted it up for the first time, and my screen would flash on and off repeatedly. And nothing would happen. I couldnt get it to go to the dashboard. But then I picked it up and moved it, and It started working. I was boggled of course, but was ready to play games so just ignored it. Then today I bought a new faceplate. After removing the old one and putting the new one on, It started doing it again. So I kept trying to take it off and put it back on. So I replaced it with the one from before, and it turned right on.....Of course, again, very confused. Then I put the new one back on once more, and it didnt work again...
So then I pressed the button one last time and it finally booted up. But I noticed in the dashboard that My HDD was not present. No files or profile to be found. I tried reseting it to see if it would come back. But when it booted back up, I could not get the controllers to connect to it. So my last thought was to turn it off, and remove the HDD and put it back on. And I did, and now it works fine.”
Anyone else out there having similar or the same problems? Let us know! And thanks for the email Inferno52386 =)

Wow, didnt think you guys would even put that up. Nice work. Im going to try and mess with it in the morning to see if I can figure out exactly what is causing the problem. That way you guys can spread to word... and also if you have this problem, please let me know too by messaging me on xbox live, gamertag= Inferno52386

This is totally strange. I have been working on computers almost 8 years now and never heard of casing problems causing problems with internal hardware.
Unless the clips that hold on the faceplate are a combination clip with the internals on the xbox360, this makes no since.
Also it may seem that the hard drive connections may be really really poor for this to happen. Last time a hard drive caused a computer not to work in my expierence is when the cables were in poor condition.
Also people could check the power supply to make sure the xbox360 is providing a well amount of power to its components.
This is a shame to hear that something as simple as a faceplate can cause a crash, but then again I think it may be the hard drive.

I dare say its a faulty HDD connection, so when he moves it around, it might be enough to jolt a loose connection into, and out of, place.

This is a bogus story.
This is nothing more then this guy having a faulty unit. I have access to three units and none of them have issues with switching faceplates.
You need to return your unit buddy!

Bogus story? Why would it be bogus. I never said that this problem is a problem with all of the xbox 360's. I never said that this was going to be a recall or that even a bunch of people were experiencing this problem. I wrote to them to let them know that it is happening to mine. In case it does happen to someone else, that way we would know if I was the only one or not.
Of course it is faulty. But it seems to work fine now, so I'll keep it until it goes down for good.
And I am pretty sure it is something with the HDD either not seating properly or a bad connection/connector. Im thinking the reason I noticed this when i replaced the faceplate, is becuase removing the faceplate requires a little bit of force, and that force may have moved or bumped the connection just enough to not connect properly. And the flashing screen is probably the system screwing up trying to read the HDD when it cant do it properly.
Either way, I dont see why this is a "bogus" story

I had the same problem when i put my woody faceplate on. This is what is happening or at least in my case. I had one hand on top to secure the 360 while removing the faceplate. Well, what i had done was hit the button on the hard drive that takes it off, and it had popped the hard drive up just enough to where it was not getting a full connection to the 360. I pushed the hard drive back down and all was good. Hope this helps
