Ex-Microsoft "Enforcer" Claims Xbox Made to "Stop Sony" |
Listed in: News Tags: Microsoft, Playstation, Sony, xbox
A guy who used to work at Microsoft and was known as a "Microsoft's enforcer" due to his aggressive business style is out saying that the Xbox was created just to put a stop to Sony and their damn PlayStations. He's the former VP of Windows Sales at Microsoft (he retired in '02) and his name is Joachim Kempin. He says it all started with Sony's chilly attitude towards MS back in the pre-Xbox days. He says when it came to creating the Xbox, "The main reason was to stop Sony."
"You see, Sony and Microsoft...they never had a very friendly relationship, OK? And this wasn't because Microsoft didn't want that," he told IGN.
Kempin said Bill Gates always wanted Sony and Microsoft to be friendly with each other, but was worried that the PlayStation could evolve into something that could threaten MS and their hold on the PC market.
"Sony was always very arm's length with Microsoft," says Kempin. "Yeah, they bought Windows for their PCs but when you take a really hard look at that, they were never Microsoft's friend. And Microsoft in a way wanted them to be a friend because they knew they had a lot of things we could have cooperated on because they are, in a way, an entertainment company, you know?"
"I mean, at least a portion of Sony is and they really had some good things going on there, but as soon as they came out with their own video console, Microsoft just looked at that and said, 'Well, we have to beat them, so let's do our own.'"

Okay the "Sony's been around way longer"-part is accurate however as far a consoles go they are only one console behind Sony. I don't really think that Sony has that much of an advantage when it comes to consoles. Sure Sony IS better when it comes to hardware but without a good software that hardware is useless.
And software is something that MS does a million times better than Sony.
I'm not counting Handhelds because MS don't compete in that market, well I suppose they have their Windows Phones but those aren't meant to rival PSP and PS Vita, but rather iPhone and Android

Are you kidding me? Windows has been a super suckball since XP. The only reason Microsoft still lives is the monopoly they built with the original windows.
