2. Continued improvement
They will keep on improving their storytelling, however, as they grow more confident with each version of the game.

"With each version we get more confident with our storytelling and better at our storytelling, both from a technical aspect - our cinematics in [Gears of War] 3 are way better than our cinematics in 1 and 2 - and with deeper writing, with Karen [Traviss, author of three gears novels] and deeper character development. We're constantly improving. We'll get better and better."

Now that there will be four-player co-op play in GoW3, there should be more avenues for the players to explore furthere each of the characters involved, even those who used to be secondary.

Explained Fergusson, "In 3 we're trying to conclude the story, so we're swinging a little  more on the story side. The pace is still there. It's the biggest campaign we've ever done, and a lot of it has to do with the amount of story we're trying to get across."

"For the first time ever you'll get to play as Cole and not have Marcus or Dom around, and get to see what it's like to be Cole and experience his emotions and his side of the story as him rather than as a witness."

Didn't affect me at all. In fact, the whole scene became an in-joke between me and my buddy. I love Gears, but come on, they should just accept it's not an emotionally charged story. It's about big muscly men fighting with chainsaw-guns.

If anything, I was more gripped by the exchange between the main characters and the queen. Maria's death just seemed like an afterthought. Rico is a supporting character, and they barely talk about Maria enough to have ever been attached to her on any level.

I was sad when Aerith died in FFVII. When Maria died I was thinking "good now we can get on with the main story."

All i can say is at least it has a story. I've played every Halo and it's always just walk around identical environments and shoot the same Aliens a few thousand times, if anyone can find any noticeable story or characters in there they must have better eyesight than me, but i have to say Gears is by some margin my favourite FPS.
