EB Games Canada dropping Pre-Owned Games |
Listed in: News Tags: EB Games, eb games canada, GameStop, internal documents, pre-owned games, pre-owned sales, secrets

Pre-Owned games aren't good for the industry, I'm pretty sure more or less is the comment you'll get from a developer here and there but some internal documents obtained by Kotaku and spread around to a few other gaming websites - have started to talk about the stand-alone preowned section to be mixed with used and new copies at EB Games in Canada.
One thing I didn't know was that EB Games in Canada is actually owned by GameStop, and it seems, someone up top thought it'd be a good idea to mix the new and pre-owned games section together and the average consumer will be none-the-wiser, as the prices for used copies will be the same as new copies and stickers will be removed.
While this might not be a big deal for people who just want a copy of the game, or they know a game didn't come out this year and are looking for an old (out of print) copy. I do have to say this will become a problem, especially in the next few weeks as good old grandma and grandpa who have enough to do in their seventy year old life, to make their snobbish, jerky, grandkids love them and end up spending a large sum of cash on something that probably isn't even the right thing...my heart, honestly, bleeds for them.
EB has yet to comment on these "internal documents" but someone claiming to be an employee also contacted Kotaku saying they "were told that we were to merge all used games with the new games and have them sectioned off by one of four specific genres they gave us," and were even told that new copies must be on the bottom of the pile and the used copies were to be "stacked on the top", as well as getting rid of any advertising material saying it was used.
Going back to my original point with GameStop, this may be a corporate take over in Canada and the scrapping of the EB Games title and just spewing forth with GameStop, by getting rid of EB Promotional Material...but the occums razor here is simply that they are trying to screw gamers over with claiming used titles are new titles...time will tell.

Maybe the retailer would sell the used item for the price as a new but who would really buy it for that price? lmao!
I don't see this happening here unless if the gamestop corporate suits are on crack.

This is just another drop in the bucket for Gamestop's terrible, customer unfriendly polices.
It's just another reason for me never to shop there again.

Anywho, used games bad for business? BS. Used games have been around since day 1. It was called selling a game to your friend. Or hell, simply GIVING the game away after you were done. Then of course there's the always fun, finding 50+ games at a garage sale and going NUTS.

Guess no one is going to EBGames anymore. What is the point if they do this. People will just go to Best Buy or Futureshop. Its not like Eb Games offers good deals.

When I purchase games I check multiple store prices before walking into eb because lets face it, they love to rip you off. Trade in something for $3 and the resale is 10x that. No Thanks I'll keep it.
I just picked up the new Zelda Skyward Sword today for $39 at wal-mart, EB wanted the full price of $49. I called EB about picking up a 3 month sub for xbox gold also, sorry we only have 1 year subscriptions.. I think it was just last fall they gave me the same story. Sorry I don't wanna give you all the money in my wallet right now.
"Don't Spend it all in one Place *cough* EB"

It still amazes me that:
A. People actually trade in just the game, no case or manual (what the hell did you do with it in the first place? How hard is it to keep your shit together in one place?)
B. That they continue to buy games with no case/manual.

1. Where did you steal these from?
2. Did you even play these?
But yeah, most games are nothing more then the cartridge or disc. They usually throw the box away if it's wrecked.
